Today is not the day for tweets:

Google Maps now has Layers To Mobile

Google announced a new feature for Google Maps and a new feature for Google Maps for Mobile. The first feature allows you to plot multiple searches on the same map. This comes in handy when you want to get driving directions, plus plot the various gas stations, golf courses, supermarkets and so on, along the route. "The first thing we wanted to try was My Maps. This feature on Google Maps on desktop becomes even more useful with the ability to access them from my phone. We're not alone in wanting this -- it's the fifth most requested feature on the Google Mobile Product Ideas page. It was great to trace bike routes and add places to stop on the computer, add the My Maps layer in Maps for mobile with a few clicks, and see them up on my Nokia S60 handset from our bike."

iPhone 3GS & people dont like ATT

During Apple's conference call announcing another record quarter, chief operating officer Tim Cook said the relationship with AT&T was strong and he was happy. iPhone news from USA - The survey conducted by PriceGrabber.com suggests that more people would buy or use the iPhone if it was available through another telco (Not AT&T). Apple cut a deal with AT&T to lock its iPhones so that they only ran on the company's networks. The deal was controversial and has resulted in 'pirates' writing lots of software to unlock the iPhone from the network. PriceGrabber conducted a poll of 2,411 respondents asking them about why they have not bought the iPhone 3GS. More than ten percent of those polled owned an earlier version of the iPhone, but said they would not upgrade it because of the bad experience they have had with AT&T. The survey did not ask why people thought AT&T was so bad. However, the media has previously reported on user criticism of the AT&T n...

Google Maps Mobile: How does it work without GPS

How the new Google Maps Mobile works, without GPS? It uses cell-id based location detection. 1) Google has paid some network operators in the various (currently 22 countries) for access to their wholesale location services. What the application probably does is fetch your IMEI and use this to obtain your location via the network operator wholesale location services. I also suspect any data Google might be getting from the network operators might be less accurate than it could be - so as to alleviate privacy concerns. There are probably other things going on like a fallback to a (less accurate) Google database of cellids/GPS positions where Google doesn’t have a location service agreement with the network operator. 2) According to the FAQ on accuracy , the Google database is made up by taking "geo-contextual information [from anonymous GPS-readings, etc] and associates this information with the cell at that location to develop a database of cell locations".
