Obama: "I Have Never Used Twitter"

USA President went to China, was asked about Twitter and it was streamed live on his Facebook page. Nice change in the world. Obama was asked by a student, "Do you know about the great firewall and should we be able to use Twitter?" His reply: "I have never used Twitter but I'm an advocate of technology and not restricting internet access." All those people voted for him because they thought he was on Twitter. I bet they are gutted.

Manager and interruptions

"DR. MINTZBERG: Yes, that comes out of my original doctoral thesis, but it’s held up throughout the years: Management is largely about interruption. But email—and especially BlackBerries in the pocket and all that—really makes it much worse."

Skype revenue per user

Interesting fact - Skype revenue from one user is $1.35. (Ebay posted $8.54 billion in revenue last year, to which Skype contributed a paltry $550 million. The basic service, calls over the internet to other Skype users, is free. Revenue comes from such up-charges as calls out to the normal telephone system, a rented telephone number so non-Skype members can call in and voicemail-to-text conversion)

Google Maps now has Layers To Mobile

Google announced a new feature for Google Maps and a new feature for Google Maps for Mobile. The first feature allows you to plot multiple searches on the same map. This comes in handy when you want to get driving directions, plus plot the various gas stations, golf courses, supermarkets and so on, along the route. "The first thing we wanted to try was My Maps. This feature on Google Maps on desktop becomes even more useful with the ability to access them from my phone. We're not alone in wanting this -- it's the fifth most requested feature on the Google Mobile Product Ideas page. It was great to trace bike routes and add places to stop on the computer, add the My Maps layer in Maps for mobile with a few clicks, and see them up on my Nokia S60 handset from our bike."

iPhone 3GS & people dont like ATT

During Apple's conference call announcing another record quarter, chief operating officer Tim Cook said the relationship with AT&T was strong and he was happy. iPhone news from USA - The survey conducted by PriceGrabber.com suggests that more people would buy or use the iPhone if it was available through another telco (Not AT&T). Apple cut a deal with AT&T to lock its iPhones so that they only ran on the company's networks. The deal was controversial and has resulted in 'pirates' writing lots of software to unlock the iPhone from the network. PriceGrabber conducted a poll of 2,411 respondents asking them about why they have not bought the iPhone 3GS. More than ten percent of those polled owned an earlier version of the iPhone, but said they would not upgrade it because of the bad experience they have had with AT&T. The survey did not ask why people thought AT&T was so bad. However, the media has previously reported on user criticism of the AT&T n...

Google Maps Mobile: How does it work without GPS

How the new Google Maps Mobile works, without GPS? It uses cell-id based location detection. 1) Google has paid some network operators in the various (currently 22 countries) for access to their wholesale location services. What the application probably does is fetch your IMEI and use this to obtain your location via the network operator wholesale location services. I also suspect any data Google might be getting from the network operators might be less accurate than it could be - so as to alleviate privacy concerns. There are probably other things going on like a fallback to a (less accurate) Google database of cellids/GPS positions where Google doesn’t have a location service agreement with the network operator. 2) According to the FAQ on accuracy , the Google database is made up by taking "geo-contextual information [from anonymous GPS-readings, etc] and associates this information with the cell at that location to develop a database of cell locations".

Gmail folder flooded with spam messages

On my mailbox Spam folder now there are more than 2000 messages (in 2 weeks period). And thats true - According to Google - "overall spam levels in the second quarter of 2009 were 53% higher than during the first quarter, and 6% higher than a year ago"

Google is google even in Africa

In the fastest growing mobile market, Google will help local people to get news and trade. "At Google we seek to serve a broad base of people — not only those who can afford to access the Internet from the convenience of their workplace or with a computer at home. It's important to reach users wherever they are, with the information they need, in areas with the greatest information poverty. In many places around the world, people look to their phones, rather than their computers, to find information they need in their daily lives."

Vodafone is buying T-Mobile UK?

In UK FT reports: "Vodafone is considering an offer to buy T-Mobile UK in an audacious move that would have huge repercussions for the British mobile phone market. The world’s largest mobile operator by revenue is looking at the case for acquiring T-Mobile UK, which has an estimated enterprise value of €3bn-€4bn ($4.2bn-$5.6bn) – even though any transaction runs the risk of being blocked by regulators."

Lenovo Thinkpad T400S Laptop keyboard change

What is the last time, you saw your pc keyboard change? I mean buttons? :) Well this time, Lenovo DID: "Lenovo put nearly a year of research into two design changes that debuted on an updated ThinkPad laptop this week. No, not the thinner, lighter form or the textured touchpad — rather, the extra-large "Delete" and "Escape" keys."

This person declined to say how much revenue Facebook is making but said the company has had positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, for the past five quarters and expects to be cash-flow positive in 2010."

iPhone Free from AT&T

"While any ruling would affect many industry players, AT&T and Apple may have the highest stakes in the battle. The iPhone is the No. 1 seller at AT&T, and the iPhone has been key to driving AT&T Mobility subscriber growth as it gets harder for carriers to add new customers. About 40% of the 4.3 million AT&T customers who activated the device in the second half of 2008 were new to AT&T, according to the company's latest quarterly filing. "
