Why people work at certain companies when the money is not the issue

Start from this - Pay people enough, only to take the issue of the money from the table. Then go with meaningfull things (start treating people as people:-) and you will see that the money is not the issue. And the most important things that motivate are: Autonomy - self direction. Mastery - we want to be better at stuff. PURPOSE motive! Dan Pink:

I missed Euro vision song contest show on tv, so I tried to capture the sense from the twitter comments, here they are: "don't ask me about lithuania in Eurovision 'cuz i'm gonna cry. it's really sad. they had to be in the final!" Visa Launches Mobile Payments for iPhone without NFC

Visa payWave is a new payment feature that lets you check out faster since you don’t need to fumble for cash. With Visa payWave, you simply wave your Visa card in front of a secure reader, and you're on your way. Most of the time, a signature is not required for purchases under $25, plus, you retain control of the card during the transaction, which reduces the risk of fraud. Visa already released a similar technology in Malaysia and Japan .  Last year, for example, the company teamed up with Nokia and Maybank, a leading financial institution in Malaysia, to offer Visa payWave on mobile devices. But at the time, the company claimed that several barriers to U.S. adoption still remained, many of which had to due with the limited adoption of NFC-enabled devices and terminals here in the U.S. (NFC, or near field communications, is a wireless communication technology that enables data exchanges between devices. The technology is popular overseas in Europe and Asia, but has yet to catch...

How to display the title bar in Google Chrome?

I hope this helps,

Cost of the Facebook fan of your page or Starbucks

In social media we always ask - What is the monetary value of these fans or how to monetize them. For example - What did Starbucks gain, then invested in it's Facebook fan base - acquired in part with several big ad buys. Now it;s  6.5 million fan base which is worth $23.4 million in media annually . How we get this number - The company's findings are based on: impressions generated in the Facebook news feed the stream of recent updates from users' networks. Brand's 1 million fans generate about $300,000 in media value each month. Stats, by "Virtue"

Why iPhone will not have flash support

Steve Jobs made it clear - "Adobe’s Flash products are 100% proprietary. They are only available from Adobe, and Adobe has sole authority as to their future enhancement, pricing, etc. While Adobe’s Flash products are widely available, this does not mean they are open, since they are controlled entirely by Adobe and available only from Adobe. By almost any definition, Flash is a closed system." You can read full story here

Google Android rapid growth on mobile advertising

Last March 12 manufacturers were responsible for 34 Android devices though only two, the HTC Dream and HTC Magic comprised 96% of total traffic. This year, that 96% was shared between 11 devices. The Motorola Druid has the most traffic, at 32%. What does it mean for advertisers or Apple? AdMob stats show: "Android ad traffic in the U.S. was 46% in March of this year versus iPhone's 32%. Android's ad traffic has grown 32% per month, rising from 72 million requests in March of last year to two billion last month. " Although the fact that advertisers in the U.S. have elected to put more ads on Android than iPhone is a good indicator as to the desirability of that platform, Apple is still ahead of Google overall. Apple indicated that the company had sold 8.75 million iPhones in that three-month period.  Android sold seven million in the whole of last year.  You can download full report here

How does Google do at SEO for google.com?

How does Google do at SEO for google.com? Google does: it is one of the most linked domains on the web (during 2008). Interesting facts: Google doesn't have any team members that works on SEO things ;-) And Google optimizes for the user experience. Funny thing is that In the SEO report CArd: 1) search result presentation 2) URLs and redirects 3)On-page optimizations Many google products missed basics ;) Like no right meta tags, LOTS of duplicate content , like all working examples of Google books without redirects. Title tags - without real simple product name. One great rule you must know - product logo, should link to the RIGHT page. Most of the google pages doesn't have it either. BAD example - Google mobile adds logo, linked to the 404 error page :) Here is a video straight from Google to you:

Promoted Tweets twitter adds

Recent new from twitter - new service called "Promoted Tweet" Initially, the ads will start with search: Advertisers will be able to buy keywords, and when those keywords are searched for, the Promoted Tweet will appear at the top of the search results.  This form of advertising will work across all Twitter applications and clients The implementation won't be especially annoying, especially the first part.   This seems like a no-brainer--we're surprised it took so long. It seems that As long as the Promoted Tweet appears at the top of the search stream, people will immediately get used to it.

Online is a real threat for DVDs and Blu ray

Recent stats from "Experian simmons" shows huge online growth in video. Which takes more and more DVD rental users.: "Online streaming video and downloading technology enables instant gratification, which is something that U.S. consumers seem to relish to the fullest. For the past year and a half, online video streaming and downloading activity has been on a continuous rise, with 31% more U.S. adults today watching streaming video online and 30% more U.S. adults downloading movies online." We also can see the decrease of 14% in the number of adults who rented DVD/Blu Ray disks through a retail store, we can safely say that consumers are embracing online video in rapidly increasing numbers. Since the end of September 2008 until now, the percent of American adults downloading video to their mobile phones has increased by a relative 385%.

Web users segmentation strategy

Thinking about your web user database, or when you use CRM, or calculating average conversion rates - always remember, that The average is irrelevant. Great post by Seth godin : "When you can't figure out the best way to treat all your customers, the best way to price things, the best thing to offer, realize that the problem is almost always this: you're trying to treat everyone the same. Don't. Break them into groups with similar attributes, and suddenly the path becomes a lot more clear."

10 rules by Bill Gates about life and success - Microsoft

It's worth it to publish.  Rule 1 : Life is not fair -- get used to it! Rule 2 : The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself. Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both. Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping -- they called it opportunity. Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them. Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generati...
